We stayed at a honey farm and meadery. We got to tour the hives, see the creaming and distilling equipment, and we even got to stick our finger into a live nest and have honey straight from the hive! This last part was a bit nerve-racking with bees crawling all over the rack… but we chose to trust the beekeeper and it turned out fine. I was really surprised at how relaxed the bees were while we were messing around in their nest. The beekeeper’s smoke went out, so this was all done with the bees near their natural state.

We slept right next to the young hives (one that had just started out, or where a second queen was pulled from an existing nest). It was interesting to watch them all take off and land. It was just like an airport where they had a “runway” where they would take off and land all travelling in the same direction (right over our trailer).

Anyways, the honey was great (both from the nest and the jar we purchased) and so was the mead! We were sad we only bought one bottle because we quickly went through it having a glass at sunset each evening.
